I am a teaching artist with an enduring love of languages and literatures. I enjoy dancing, performing slam poetry, discussing films, and writing short stories. My other interests include business, media, technology, and international politics.

Prior to teaching, I was the writer for the CUNY-Dominican Studies Institute. My writing has been featured in Grolier's Encyclopedia Latina: History, Culture & Society in the United States, Fijate magazine, Siempre News, and other publications. I participated in the first Dominican Women Writers Fair and received commendations from Councilman Miguel Martinez and Senator Eric T. Schneiderman for her work in fiction. I was also featured in the second Dominican Women Writers Fair for my work in poetry. My signature poem, “Dominicanita,” which was set to music was well received. This poem was also performed at the Eighth International Book Fair of Santo Domingo. The Melting Pot: Donde Todos Se Queman (Where Everybody Gets Burned) is my first self-published collection of poetry.

I am also a protest poet known as Mestiza and I have performed at CUNY schools and other local venues including The Cornelia Street Café, East Harlem Cafe, Camaradas, and The Bowery Poetry Club. In 2006, I founded The Live Poets Society, which hosts “The Hatrix,” an annual poetry battle of the sexes, mentors new poets in the craft of performance poetry, and promotes the enjoyment of poetry in all its forms.
